The NRB Turns a Grand Ole Eighty in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

With a new war taking place in the Middle East it sure feels like the long conjectured Biblical "End Times" could be breaking out across the planet. With that being the case people will still look to the church for comfort, healing and prayer. Other aspects of Christianity take on a more worldly feel as they undertake the business of spreading the Good News to the corners of the Earth.

Troy A. Miller - NRB President & CEO - greets the gathering at the opening night session in Nashville.

All these aspects of the religion started by the mission and teachings of Jesus Christ more than two millennia ago were all on display when artists, authors, executives, filmmakers, media and religious leaders gathered for the 80th Annual NRB (National Religious Broadcasters) 2024 Convention at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee from February 20 - 23, 2024.

NRB is a nonpartisan, international association of Christian communicators whose members represent millions of listeners, readers, and viewers. NRB's goal is to protect free speech rights by advocating those rights in corporate, governmental and media sectors. They also cultivate accountability and integrity within their membership by providing educational, ministry, networking and relational opportunities.

The NRB 2024 conference brought together Christian organizations from church media, digital marketing, film, print, radio and television backgrounds. Attendees had the chance to meet with key decision makers plus there were numerous occasions to promote ministries and projects to thousands of Christian communicators.

Jonathan Cahn and the books that have propelled him to the top of the best-seller lists.

In addition, there were panel discussions, and workshops with industry experts that were sharing practical advice on how to grow an organization and reach more people. There were a number of prominent keynote speakers including the ever-controversial President Donald Trump who addressed NRB on Thursday night adding a big dose of buzz to an already celebratory event.

On Tuesday, the opening session kicked off with speeches from Troy A. Miller - NRB President & CEO - who outlined the organization's primary policy goals. He was followed by James E. Ward Jr. - Chairman/CEO at Total Living Network - a pastor, author, visionary, and entrepreneur who has emerged as a mainstream, conscionable voice of spiritual and moral truth. He is regularly sought after by corporate, government, and thought leaders, and on mainstream media outlets to mitigate the complex racial, cultural, intersectional and socio-political challenges of the day.

Musical interludes featured a quick set from Christian chart-toppers for KING & COUNTRY and praise songs delivered by Journey Worship. Opening night concluded with a welcoming from Jonathan Falwell - Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church & Chancellor of Liberty University - who spoke on the importance of integrity in Christian leadership before everyone exited into the lobby where an 80th birthday cake was being served in a festive, party-like atmosphere to celebrate a great beginning to the 2024 conference.

for KING & COUNTRY got the party started at NRB 2024.

The NRB Exposition is one of the largest marketplaces dedicated to Christian media professionals. Attendees interacted with broadcasters, marketers, podcasters, producers, and countless other communication professionals for connections and resources. In addition to media there were many other groups represented at the NRB Exposition such as advocacy, authors, civic groups, digital, education, entertainment, ministry, missions, publishing, production, radio and more.

For us at Team MCN - this year's convention started off even more special and personal when we had the opportunity to catch up with best-selling author Jonathan Cahn (The Harbinger) who was at the Gaylord filming an interview promoting his latest book The Josiah Manifesto.

You see, we had the pleasure of going to the Holy Land with Jonathan in 1991 on his first time out leading a tour in Israel and he went on to marry us in New Jersey in 1994. As we told him in the Delta A Ballroom, Jonathan has gone on to achieve almost Billy Graham type status as he become one of the most recognizable evangelical figures of our generation. The NRB International Christian Media Convention facilitated those type of encounters along with plenty of chances to network with people in the industry all under one roof to talk about advancing the gospel.

In addition to Cahn, attendees to the conference had the likelihood of bumping into a Who's Who of conservative Christian talent and entertainment during the four-day event. We spotted many charismatic persons including Sting Ray Robb - the fist-year IndyCar Series driver who will be behind the wheel for the PRAY.com car this season. We watched Kevin Sorbo - the actor who is making a Herculean effort to bring Christian films to the forefront with two big movies set to hit the big screen soon - as he was interviewed live. Scores of media icons were in the building as well as we passed television evangelist John Ackerman in the halls of the convention center not long after seeing CBN News anchor Chris Mitchell participate in a discussion on the Israel/Hamas war in the Delta Ballroom.

Since there was so much to cover at NRB our approach will be to break down key subjects such as authors, end times, film, unity between Christians and the Jewish people and for us of major interest - music. All of this will be presented here as part of our Special Report on Religion in America from the NRB 2024.

Keep coming back for updates!
