It Was a Great Day to Chill at the Nashville Zoo

by Rich and Laura Lynch

It was a beautiful and perfect day to chill at the Nashville Zoo on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 as the sun was abundantly shining on Grassmere with temperatures topping out at a comfortable 69 degrees. With many schools on Spring break that would explain the large crowds descending upon the main gate early in the morning through the early afternoon where even the facility's recently opened parking garage found itself at near capacity.

This guy - I mean, really - LOL!

We found ourselves hopping over to the Kangaroo pen a little early for "joey season" but that only meant that many of the residents were sitting on the winding path waiting to be pet by the early arriving patrons. Next, we strolled over to the safari zone to spot Zebras before encountering a rare sighting of the elusive Andean Bear who was hiding as usual in between the large rock formations at the exhibit. We also found ourselves transfixed by the trio of Sumatran Tiger cubs who were enjoying their time together before they ultimately find new homes separate from each other at other zoos in the U.S. But, that only means Nashvillians will hopefully be treated to new arrivals to the clan in the future.

The Sumatran Tiger cubs have become a top draw in Nashville.

More creatures spotted was the one Meerkat who was lounging without a care in the world to the amusement of onlookers. One of the Komodo Dragons was kicking back on a rock inside just waiting for it to be just a little warmer outside to take advantage of their expanded outdoor environment. At the HCA Healthcare Veterinary Center we watched zoo professionals in action as they were performing surgery on a Rattle Snake and the wrangling that was required to sedate the needy amphibian was worth the price of admission alone.

Come visit the kings and queen of the Komodo Dragon den.

Visitors hoping to observe the always in demand giraffes in the wild will have to wait only a little while longer as that section will be re-opening when the brand-new Leopard Forest comes on line a little later this year that will feature four separate habitats where guests will be able to enjoy species like - Amur Leopards, Colobus Monkeys, De Brazza's Monkeys, Klipspringers and Rock Hyraxes. All this proves is that there's always something new happening just off of Nolensville Pike at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere.

Hop on over to the Nashville Zoo for a fun filled day of excitement and adventure in Music City.
