Ricky Skaggs: A Festive Night of Faith and Family at The Fisher Center in Nashville
Christmas arrived at the Fisher Center in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday, December 07, 2025 when 15-time GRAMMY winner and Country Music Hall of Fame member Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder presented holiday songs - as only they can - while reminding us that Jesus is the reason for the season.
The Fisher Center in Nashville was a beautiful setting for Ricky's Christmas extravaganza. Christmas shows have become a long-standing tradition for Ricky & his talented team. It started many years ago when Ricky's mother passed away and his family found themselves at a loss. Music was the best way for them to work through their pain and the Skaggs' seasonal shows have become a much-anticipated celebration for his fans. The stage at the Fisher Center was flanked by Christmas trees. Basic lighting was used to allow the music to do the talking although Ricky did chat with us throughout the evening. The set opened with an upbeat holiday song with solos allowing the gifted members of Kentucky Thunder to shine. On this occasion they also had an accordion, keys and percussion. All adding punch to favorites such as "Deck The Halls".
Ricky Skaggs was all smiles at The Fisher Center in December. "Joy it is to play," enthused Skaggs while commenting on what a great venue the Fisher Center is. Before playing "New Star Shining" he shared the origins of the tune which has become a much-loved staple about the birth of Jesus. Ricky also said he was glad that we were here - acknowledging that there were a lot of Christmas shows taking place in Nashville this time of year. In addition to being an accomplished artist, Ricky is one of the few last links to the legends of bluegrass and country. He said that he had the honor of participating in the Opry's 100th anniversary, which flowed into the story of receiving a cassette tape with "Reunion Song" on it from Chet Atkins. It would take some time for him to record it and we were pleased that he played the tune at the Fisher Center. Skaggs introduced the band which has some new members. Soon after Ricky's wife Sharon and the rest of The Whites joined the gathering to sing the hopeful "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem".
Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder were joined by The Whites for a number of songs in Nashville. After a short break, a string section from Belmont University joined the assemble to present the account of our "Good Shepard". Other highpoints was a spirited "Silver Bells" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". The Whites assisted with the compelling "Mary Did You Know" (one of our personal favorites) and later a winning "White Christmas". On a secular note, was "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" played especially for the kids in the house. The night ended on high with a stellar "Silent Night" and "Joy to the World". Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder along with family and guests presented a night of faith and first-rate bluegrass music making for a great way to celebrate the reason for the season! The festive Fisher Center was an ideal spot for Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder Christmas as it was decked out for the holidays. This multi-purpose venue located on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee continues to feature a wide range of performances including dance productions, live music, operas, plays and seasonal productions. Please check out their website for upcoming shows and be on the lookout for Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder - as there are still a few more holiday concerts and tour dates in 2026.
