Niko Moon is a musician and producer known for his upbeat, genre‑blending sound and his chart‑topping hit "Good Time". In his youth he started playing drums and later picked up the guitar then found himself performing in Atlanta clubs while working construction jobs. His career arc is unusual in modern country as he spent a decade as a behind‑the‑scenes composer for other major artists before stepping into the spotlight and becoming a platinum‑selling performer in his own right. He is a visual storyteller who punctuates his tunes with country twang, hip-hop rhythms, island vibes and pop hooks.

The family-friendly cookout at Maggie's Place featured flavorful food, themed drinks, a photo booth, a ballon artist and of course music. As a tie into roots representatives from Roots Nashville were at Maggie's to let locals know about their citywide campaign to plant 500,000 trees by 2050. They also provide resources and training for businesses, HOAs and others who are interested in going greener.

Since Wednesday's show was an album release party all the songs performed by Niko and his very capable band were from Roots. They opened with the super catchy "Get Country". "Georgia (Roots)" included a creative tip of the hat to Ray Charles along with things that distinguish the peach state. "Somewhere, Somehow, Someway" was encouraging while "Rich Man" was a rich tribute to being a family man. "Drift Away" and the swampy "American Dreamin'" featured rousing rhythms paired with more cheerful messages to close the concise set on high.

At the Grand Ole Opry Niko touched upon the importance of the venue while also stating that it was a blessing and honor to be there. Moon reminded folks that Roots would be out at midnight before playing the reflective "Rich Man" a sweet sentimental song inspired by his wife. "Somewhere, Somehow, Someway" also off of Roots touched upon the challenges of life yet it was packed with positivity. He closed his segment with "Good Time" the hit that originally got him to the Opry stage for the first time back in the fall of 2020.

He recalled how nervous he was that October day but fast forward to 2026 and now Niko is a formidable frontman. What makes him so engaging is how much fun he looks like he is having on stage as he moves to his good-time grooves. At both events he stated that his music is positive and he avoids sad songs as he would rather encourage folks which he most certainly does.

Roots is perhaps Niko's most personal record to date. It is a reflection of who he is today while looking back at his past. Moon was raised by a young mother and a truck-driving father and some parts of his childhood were spent moving between trailers and extended-stay motels before finding stability and a sense of belonging through family, community and music. Roots looks back on those years and celebrates how those early experiences shaped and strengthened him as a person who today measures success through family, gratitude and purpose.

We have listened to Roots a number of times and it just keeps growing on us. It's like a stately oak tree with rings of themes. "Georgia (Roots)" is the seed with real references to the state that Niko grew up in flowing into the hopeful "American Dreamin'" affirming that he knew he would see better days. Later "Country Songs" recalls the tunes that grounded his childhood.

Gratitude is found in "Rich Man" and "Right Here, Right Now". While "Take It Slow" and "Lakeside Summer" shines a light on enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. Compassion is another branch with the gospel infused "Lay It On Me" and the closer "Change The World" that both touch lightly on challenges while staying in the upbeat vein of the whole record. Roots is solid from start to finish with our favorite track "Get Country" right in the middle.
