Paws, Claws and Applause: The Acro‑Cats Bring Their Purrfectly Wild Show to Nashville
The Amazing Acro-Cats landed in Nashville, Tennessee October 7th through the 11th to present their unique purrformance at the Looby Theater. This troupe of trained house cats, all former orphans, rescues, and strays - gave a one-of-a-kind 90-minute showcase of acrobatics and agility.
The Amazing Acro-Cats opened with an introduction packed with witty cat puns. The live purrformances were presented as "mewsical numbers" and real music was piped in to punctuate the pawsome feats that included turning on an applause sign, walking across an elevated ladder and an adult cat pushing a kitten across the stage in a stroller. All impressive and incredibly cute. We also learned how and why people should click train cats which reinforces good behavior with a treat. One of the most compelling tricks of the day was that every Acro-Cat would return to its carrier when a whistle was blown which got us to thinking that if we ever had to quickly evacuate our home this command could be a life-saver.
The cast was filled with pros and those in training. Some of the stars were more apt at jumping from perches to humans or ringing bells than others. This was to be expected as some of the cats were experiencing their first or second time in front of a live audience. We also enjoyed the feats of balance and hoop leaps, but the unpredictable nature of the felines added to the spontaneity of the show. It was quite comical to watch a few walk off stage and into the crowd. During the cat chorus line, the humans shared some of the feline's stories which flowed into a tribute to Tuna who was the original star and inspiration behind this mewsical and its mission to rescue cats one click at a time.
There were competitions and - of, course - the grand finale featuring The Rock Cats who play instruments (cow bell, drums, guitar and piano). They were joined by The Jazz Cats who might have had some piped in music to help with their horn solos but together they ended the purrformance on a high note. The Amazing Acro-Cats lived up to their billing. There were lots of attention to details including the set design which for October was decked out for Halloween and the tunes piped in before the event included the band the Stray Cats and the song "Year of the Cat". They also had a fine selection of souvenirs that supports the cats. We picked up color changing cups and a kick stick for Shamrock who got a big kick out of his new toy. Also of interest was their training kits and clothing. The Amazing Acro‑Cats may have been making their first official stop in Nashville, but they’re no strangers to the bright lights. Their fortunes began to climb after a memorable appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where their feline flair won over a national audience. That momentum only grew when the troupe was featured in a popular Netflix documentary, introducing millions to their mission, their music‑making cats, and their click‑training philosophy. By the time they reached the Looby Theater, the Acro‑Cats arrived not as an underground curiosity, but as bona fide pop‑culture performers whose rescue‑driven circus has already charmed viewers across the country.
This family friendly show was educational, entertaining and fun plus The Acro-Cats promote the importance of bonding and click training felines paired with positive reinforcement. These cool cats bowled, jumped, rang bells, skateboarded and more. The Acro-Cats tour supports Rock Cats Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Georgia that saves cats through welfare, rescue and adoption. Rock Cats Rescue has found homes for hundreds of cats and kittens since 2009. So please check out The Amazing Acro-Cats live or through various social media channels. The Z.
