MCN editor Rockin' Rich Lynch says: "I have a lot in common with John Rich! We both live in Nashville, we both write songs and we both have new music out with roots in the last book of The Bible - Revelation".
"Plain Ole Armageddon" by Rockin' Rich Lynch mines the Book of Revelation for a timely end times message.
And that's just about where the comparisons end. John Rich - one half of the successful country duo Big & Rich resides in a sprawling hilltop compound in Nashville's midtown with scores of gold records on the walls along with dozens of photographs adorning the inside of his elevator showing him with the many celebrities he has had the pleasure of meeting and working with over his decades in the music industry.
"About the only thing I have on John Rich is my song about the Book of Revelation ("Plain Ole Armageddon") dropped exactly one month before the surprise July 12, 2024 release of Rich's own scary deep dive ("Revelation") into the final chapter of the world's best-selling book," Lynch proclaimed from his South Nashville home.
Lynch's compelling rock track was inspired by a trip to the Holy Land in 1991 and the cover for the single showcases several small stones that he gathered at the Plain of Armageddon arranged into the shape of a crucifix in order to drive home his alt-punk leaning message that the final battle may soon be on the way.
John Rich on the other hand grew up the son of a preacher man and he is no stranger to bristling Sunday sermons delivered by his father that were often filled with Gospel-infused fire and brimstone imagery.
John Rich states, "'Revelation is a song inspired directly from the prophecies of the Apostle John about the future of our planet and the eventual return of Jesus Christ. I hope this song brings strength to the saved, conviction to the lost, and fear to the truly wicked. The real war is not between left and right, it's between good and evil and God wins in the end."
Rockin' Rich Lynch and John Rich meet up at Nashville's Redneck Riviera in 2021.
Rich - who is perhaps best know for his Broadway party anthem "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" - is now singing about the most famous literary horse and rider as it is Jesus in The Book of Revelation who returns to the planet while riding a white horse at the long prophesized end of days. For such a heavy topic you might think Rich spent days or weeks trying to get it just right - and you'd be wrong!
In a recent press release, Rich revealed that the song was written in just under an hour last fall while he was simultaneously conceiving the accompanying video to go along with his powerful and unprecedented three minute and thirty-three second slice of unyielding veracity. This clip - that premiered on the Tucker Carlson show - was directed by David Abbott (Earth To God) - while featuring actors Nick Searcy and Hollywood Yates battling it out in the ultimate conflict.
During the recent interview with Tucker Carlson the telegenic Rich did admit to having some reservations about releasing "Revelation".
"It' an unnerving thing to write a song like that - to sing it - and then put it out there in front of God and everybody," Rich confessed to Tucker, before continuing, "Especially in the way the world thinks and operates today. That's not what a popular artist would do."
Rockin' Rich - whose first and middle name are Richard John and John Rich are now two musical witnesses on the streets of Nashville who are both considering the notion that we might now be entering the last days of history. But, that doesn't mean they have sung their last songs. It only suggests that they are currently sounding the trumpet and pounding the drums for a higher calling.
John Rich's revealing "Revelation" is scary good and so is its accompanying video.
