A Jurassic Jam: Nashville Zoo's Sips for Species Serves Drinks, Dinos and After‑Hours Magic

by Rich and Laura Lynch

Sips For Species took place at the Nashville Zoo on Friday, April 24, 2026. This after-hours, adults only party benefited endangered habitats and species from around the world. On site was 40 plus beverage purveyors offering beers, hard seltzers & sodas, wine and much more. Live music and animal exhibits were also part of the festivities.

Sips For Species was quite the adventure in Nashville.

Before dusk, Sips For Species guests had the opportunity to explore DinoTrek. The trek took us on a wooded trail encased in fog that led us to a pair of "spitting saurs". We also got a big kick out of the blue dinos that sounded like they were chatting to us while some scenes depicted families. We saw various colors and sizes of 20 plus species of life-sized animatronic dinosaurs along the hidden path near the Historic Home. This year's DinoTrek is the Zoo's largest ever, with nearly 50 dinosaurs, including some over 20 feet tall and weighing more than 5,000 pounds! Generally, access to DinoTrek is $5 per person and is fun for kids of all ages.

DinoTrek was a plus but many were at the Zoo to explore different drinks during this three-hour affair. Attendees were invited to visit the Frugal MacDoogal booth who were serving samples of the Nashville Zoo's new conservation wine inspired by Leopard Forest. Both red and white blends, created in partnership with Ajax Turner, Wein-Bauer, and Portugal's Quinta de S. Sebastião Rare Wine were available to taste with each bottle supporting the Zoo's global conservation efforts.

Some of our favorites sips this year are pictured here.

During the night, caretakers and their furry friends were out and about plus the Animal Game Show was an amusing presentation that showcased the superpowers of animals. There was also a tiger demonstration. Friday was a fun mix of alcohol and animals with the Zoo strongly supporting ridesharing by allowing people to leave their cars overnight if needed.

At Sips For Species, Zoo staff and volunteers were stationed at various points to share insights about the animals and the Zoo's broader conservation mission. These conversations added depth to the evening, reminding guests that their participation directly supports field projects, habitat restoration and species survival programs around the world. It was a subtle but meaningful educational layer woven into the entertainment.

Sips For Species also delivered a lively social atmosphere as guests wandered the grounds with tasting glasses in hand. The mix of soft lighting, upbeat music and the hum of conversation gave the Zoo a relaxed festival feel. Many attendees treated the evening as a casual date night or a friends‑night‑out, creating a fun blend of conservation awareness and Nashville nightlife.

Music was provided by Bella Bane and Wild Bill and the Bruisers.

We opted to just sip a few samples. We stuck mainly to hard soda & seltzers with our favorite being Bravazzi Hard Italian Soda. They were offering three fruity flavor with Blood Orange topping our list. We thoroughly enjoyed all the other elements of this event including artwork designed by care takers and in some cases created by animals. We appreciated the Carousel ride with its nod to the past plus we loved the various animal encounters along with the aforementioned DinoTrek that will be onsite through July 26, 2026.

By the end of the night, it was clear that Sips For Species has become one of the Zoo's signature community events. It successfully blends philanthropy, education and entertainment in a way that feels uniquely Nashville. With strong attendance and enthusiastic feedback, the Zoo continues to show how creative programming can bring people together while supporting wildlife in need.

Throughout the year the Nashville Zoo hosts a variety of themed events such as Sips For Species. On June 12th, 2026 the popular Brew at the Zoo returns. It will feature unlimited samples from 60 plus beverage vendors, including beer, canned cocktails, ciders, seltzers, and wine. Also on the bill are animal encounters, free carousal rides, and the Wild Works Animal Show. Some habitats will be open and live music will also be showcased. Please visit the Nashville Zoo's website to plan a day trip or check out one of their special occasions.

DinoTrek just made the evening that much more legendary.
