The Nashville Sounds Cook Up Another Sizzling Hot Chickens Weekend in Music City
The month of July has been steamy thus setting the stage for Hot Chicken Weekend (July 19-20, 2025) hosted by the Sounds who were scheduled to gear up as the Nashville Hot Chickens for two days of flavorful Triple-A baseball. But first, before things got extra spicy it was the Sounds proper who took the field on Friday, July 18, 2025 at First Horizon Park against the Indians from Indianapolis.
The tastiest weekend on the calendar in Nashville sports takes place at First Horizon Park. This is the third year in a row that Music City's favorite boys of summer have played as the fiery fowls. While we still have trouble understanding how the beloved team mascot Booster is on board with the promotion - he is a giant Rooster after all - we guess that birds of a feather have to stick together. On Friday, Booster was caught canoodling with a fellow employee on the giant guitar-shaped scoreboard in a spoof of this week's Coldplay concert controversy. So, any way you slice it Booster is a team player no matter what's on his plate on Game Day.
Daz Cameron provided the Friday Fireworks as the big weekend began in Music City. On the field, no one was hotter than right-fielder Daz Cameron who dinged two solo shots out of the park during his first two at bats to help propel the home team to a weather-shortened 6-1 victory over the punchless Indians to begin the much-anticipated three-game set in Hit City. Catcher Jeferson Quero assisted with two runs scored adding to the team's momentum on the 18th that was ultimately derailed by lightning and thunder in the area as the plugged was pulled on the match at the end of the 6th. Despite a truncated night, there was still a lot of smiles at the stadium. As you walk the concourse there is plenty of concession stands, along with a game area and the Sounds' mascot is out and about to say hello to the enthusiastic Sounds fans of all ages.
Alternate uniforms mean additional income streams for the long-standing minor league icons. The Sounds also have some fun traditions such as the Country Legends Race in which Cash, Dolly, George Jones and Reba run half the warning track in the outfield to the finish line just past third base. This franchise provides a fun family friendly environment at various price points. One can purchase a GA ticket for $12.00 or buy packages that include access to a club house with a fine spread in addition to the usual stadium food. Firework Fridays are always festive and the team also has a number of generous sponsors who give away prizes between innings along with other promotions that take place throughout the year. Themed nights are a big part of the Sounds' season. For example, on August 30th, 2025, the Sounds will play the Charlotte Knights (CWS) which is Harry Potter Night so that package includes an exclusive Harry Potter branded Nashville Sounds shirt - crafted just for this occasion - to treasure as a keepsake from this spellbinding night. In addition to transforming into the Hot Chickens, throughout the year the Sounds will often dress in a variety of additional other alternate uniforms. At times they will play as the Las Vihuelas in a tribute to the classic Mexican guitar and Latin culture. On other occasions they may wear the baby blue of their parent club and take the field as the Brewskis - a playful nod to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Dolly won the classic Country Legends Race on this night at the stadium. While Nashville may be known as the home of country music, it also has a long-storied history with baseball that dates back to the 1860's when Union soldiers temporarily based in the south introduced the game to the locals. Then in 1978, Larry Schmittou who had been involved in the Nashville baseball scene for several years as the head coach of the Vanderbilt collegiate squad founded the Sounds who have been here ever since. The team is currently affiliated with the Brewers and in the past they were a farm system for the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Yankees and more as they helped launched big league careers for the likes of Don Mattingly, Ryan Braun, R.A. Dickey and Magglio Ordonez. In the modern era the Sounds at First Horizon Park carry on the rich history of baseball in an entertaining fashion and venue. So, please check out their website for more information as they pursue the crown in the competitive International League in 2025.
Surprisingly, even Booster is a fan of the Hot Chickens in Nashville.
