True Rescue Is a Truly Inspiring Animal Shelter in Mt. Juliet

by Rich and Laura Lynch

It's been four years since we last visited True Rescue Animal Shelter in Mt. Juliet shortly after their Grand Opening at their facility located on 12110 Lebanon Rd. So, on the first truly nice spring day this season we returned on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 to marvel at how far they have come in that time. The first thing you should know is that this expansive complex currently has 297 cats in their care between the shelter and supporting foster homes. Also, since the start of this calendar year over 246 lucky felines have found their forever homes thanks to the amazing work of the staff and volunteers at True Rescue.

It was a great day to visit the True Rescue Animal Shelter in Mt. Juliet.

True Rescue's mission statement aims - "to make the maximum positive impact on the animals we care for. From supporting communities with Spay/Neuter programs, to moving animals out of low adoption animal shelters, cruelty situations or disaster-stricken areas, True Rescue is committed to being advocates for all animals. Using these community-driven models we find momentum to make a long-lasting difference through the support of our community and dedicated team of volunteers" - and they accomplish this on site with multiple rooms where cats have a communal environment to mingle with each other and potential human companions. While they do provide a similar service for the canine class we were told by staff that their operating model was recently revamped to focus mainly on felines in need.

Just some of the cool cats we met at True Rescue in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

True Rescue Animal Shelter is truly a hands on and growing organization with an in-house animal hospital to look after injured creatures and recent intakes including numerous mother cats who are pregnant or have recently birthed new litters of kittens. In the short time we were there we witnessed incoming cats, saw several recent arrivals who were acclimating and we interacted with many sweet cats who were well on their way to becoming socialized to being around humans. We also watched as the very friendly Edie was adopted by a clearly very happy new caretaker.

It was Edie's adoption day; and a curious new friend says hello to Team MCN.

True Rescue Animal Shelter stands out from similar operations in the region in that they offer an in house pet supply and unique boutique store that greets visitors at the entrance where many cats are also there to welcome potential clients and customers. With over 86,000 followers on Facebook and similar impressive numbers across other major social media platforms True Rescue is really getting their message out with many of their videos going viral to reach viewers far beyond the Mid-Tenn locale. Also, a new program that features livestreams of regional singer-songwriters performing for their in-house residents is innovative and a win-win effort to utilize all of the resources at their command in Music City and the surrounding communities.

Cats and related merchandise are a perfect pairing on the Lebanon Pike.
