Chief's On Broadway Puts Out the Fire During Hot Chicken Week in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

Country music superstar Eric Church is called "Chief" because it is a nickname handed down by his grandfather who was the police chief in Granite Falls, North Carolina. On February 01, 2025 when we visited Chief's on Broadway - the artist's new multi-purpose bar and entertainment venue opened in 2024 - it was another branch of first responders who could have been of assistance as Chief's participated in their first "Hot Chicken Week" in Music City.

The "Hot Chicken Week" sandwich offered at Chief's on Broadway in 2025.

In the past Team MCN has partaken of the "Hot Chicken Week" phenomenon by checking out the offerings of the brand's most visible purveyors in town including Prince's, Hattie B's and Party Fowl. Those three restaurants specialize in serving the most traditional take on the delicacy by combining fried chicken with a dry rub of spices set to burn at varying degrees inside one's mouth depending on preference.

As our server Taylor told us over the weekend at Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ located on the fifth floor of Chief's on Broadway - their take on hot chicken included more of wet brushing of a proprietary hot sauce that did indeed burn a bit on the way down even as it tasted so good. In fact, the portion size of their chicken sandwich was so generous we ended up carrying home a whole extra cutlet each to enjoy again for dinner over the weekend. The mac and cheese add-on side was also flavorful guaranteeing that we will be back to try more of the menu at a later date.

Jim McGuinn is a fiery and hard working up and comer in Music City.

This wasn't the first time we have experienced generosity at Eric Church's place as the boss himself via his publicity team invited us out to the third and fourth floor "Neon Steeple" listening room to enjoy one of the performances during his newsworthy and intimate residency at the venue several months ago. We returned during the holidays for Lee Roy Parnell's A Texas Flavored Christmas that was also a very pleasing experience helping Chief's on Broadway climb the list of our favorite places to see a show in Nashville.

The main barroom on the first floor always features great acts and we took a few moments to check out the hot newcomer Jim McGuinn - not to be confused with Roger who also goes by Jim - who was playing with a full band on a stage that backs up to 2nd Avenue. Jim is quickly making a name for himself as being one of the most hard-working and visible performers in the past few months as his star is on the rise on Broadway and beyond. Check out his recently released tracks on Spotify - "Mop Me Up", "Milwaukee's Beast" and "The Makings Of (The One That Got Away?" - to discover that Jim, too, has all the right ingredients to make himself a hot Nashville offering ready to be consumed by the masses - just like "Hot Chicken Week".

Chief's is located at Broadway and 2nd Avenue in Nashville.
