The Belmont Bruins Take Two From MTSU at the Curb Event Center in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

The Belmont Bruins played their annual men's and women's basketball double-header against regional rivals MTSU on Saturday, December 7, 2024 in front of several thousand excited fans and supporters at the Curb Event Center located on the gorgeous campus of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Belmont Bruins provide Division 1 level entertainment in Nashville.

Notably, it was Pearl Harbor Day and it was the hometown ladies who had the precision touch in the afternoon opener dropping numerous bombs in the form of three-pointers to claim a decisive victory against the Blue Raiders out of Murfreesboro. The women athletes of Belmont hit 11 of 27 jumpers from downtown over the course of the game enabling them to walk away with a final 65-52 mauling of their competition much to their mascot Bruiser's delight.

Fans in the stands got to see standout efforts on the court with a career-high 26-point performance from junior guard Emily La Chapell and a double-double from senior forward Kendal Cheesman as the Bruins improved to 5-4 on the season.

We enjoyed a full day of action at the Curb Events Center at Belmont University.

Half-time activities during both matches included world-class entertainment from Steve Max the always-in-demand Professional Simon Sez (Says) Caller who lined up two large squads of teams to face off against each other and quickly whittled them down to one remaining player from each side who both left the court winners with each receiving new Belmont Bruins schwag.

Speaking of schwag - throughout the day there were numerous t-shirt tosses into the crowd and many other moments of family entertainment provided by the Bruins organization and their vendors. The Pep Band was world class as you might imagine due to Belmont's well-regarded standing as a music-related institution.

There was a lot to root for in the opening battle between BU and MTSU.

The Belmont cheer squad was active, athletic and impressive with their routines during the halftime and timeouts on the court. With Christmas fast approaching fans could visit Santa on the concourse or help themselves to some free chips and queso.

We also observed many fans enjoying themselves inside the V.I.P. Vince Gill Room. The recently updated area inside the arena with unrivaled views of the Curb Event Center playing surface and the surrounding campus landscape now boasts nearly 5,500 square feet of space, 16 high-definition TVs, a new state-of-the-art video wall and a wide variety of additional furniture to enhance the viewing experience of Belmont athletic events for Bruins Club members.

Bruiser, the pep band and the cheer squad kept the crowd active and engaged all day long.

In the day's nightcap the two schools returned for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off at center court for two 20-minute halves of intense physical battle that saw the Bruins take an early commanding lead that resolved into a dramatic nail biter during the closing moments. Still - the statistics compiled by Carter Whitt including 14 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals helped Belmont University men's basketball defeat Middle Tennessee, 82-79, improving to 8-2 overall while completing the sweep of the double-header hosted at the Curb Event Center.

We often hear from many disgruntled Nashvillians who tell us they "never go to the city" because there is nothing there for them, parking is too expensive, or the price of pro sports is out of their reach. But, with season tickets on sale now for $199 per seat in a package that includes all women's and men's basketball home games we can attest that this is a deal that can't be beat. The D1 level athletics is a thrill to observe and there isn't a bad seat in the house at the Curb Center. Oh yeah, parking is free for Belmont University visitors! So, we'll see you at a game soon. Claws out - go Bruins!

Steve Max might say - "Simon Sez attend a game at Belmont".
