Troy Kemp and AC/DC: Aussie Acts Planting Their Flag in Music City

by Rich and Laura Lynch

When you think of Australians making their mark in Nashville, Tennessee it is most likely that the performer who will first come to mind is Keth Urban - the guitar-slinging country superstar who back in the day led the way for a mass musical migration from Down Under to Music City. Keith's bold and brave belief in himself many years ago made even more Aussie interactions possible here today.

Troy Kemp is all smiles in Nashville.

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024 we once again crossed path with a male vocalist, guitarist and bandleader who calls Australia home when we watched Troy Kemp take the stage with a full band at Assembly Food Hall. Up front, Troy led a fast-paced, energetic and fun set for fans from as far away as India who were enjoying an evening meal at one of the nation's largest food courts of its type.

We last watched Troy do his thing solo and acoustically on the Taco Bell stage and both approaches work for the artist who writes very good songs and puts them over in a friendly and likable way. In his homeland he has earned multiple Australian Country Chart and CMC #1 Singles, a Golden Guitar, 3 CMC Awards, 3 People's Choice Awards, a Frank Ifield International Spur Award to become one of Australia's most recognizable country music talents.

AC/DC is set to bring their thunder from down under to Nashville in 2025.

Troy's latest single "On One Hand" provides more than enough reason to delve into the rest of his recent anthemic and addictive modern country missives that include more great tracks like 2019's upbeat "My Favorite Thing" and 2022's relatable "Car Trouble".

Speaking of recognizable talents from Australia, Assembly Food Hall was not wasting any time in getting the word out about the just announced 2025 North American Power Up Tour by the legendary hard-rockers AC/DC as a striking digital billboard for their upcoming May 22 appearance at Nissan Stadium was prominently displayed in clear view off all the diners and visitors to the popular plaza on Broadway and 5th.

Troy Kemp with a full band was a tasty treat for fans at Assembly Food Hall.
