Grand Ole Opry Community Day Provides Local Residents with 99 Reasons to Smile in Nashville
by Rich and Laura Lynch
The Grand Ole Opry hosted its third annual Community Day on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The event held on the Opry Plaza and inside the esteemed venue featured family fun, food, drinks and of course live music all leading up to the celebration of their 99th birthday. For those with a Tennessee I.D. the Opry's guided backstage tour was free and this opportunity provided the locals with a chance to see one of the reasons why tourists and visitors from all around the world keep coming back to Music City year after year.
Charity Bowden, Lake & Lyndale and others provided a fine soundtrack for a fun Community Day.
On the tour, visitors enjoyed a narration explaining the history of the Opry and its importance to country music beginning with a video clip hosted by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Fans got up close views of the legendary themed dressing rooms and had a chance to stand inside the sacred circle on the Opry stage. The ticket also included "Behind the Airwaves" at the Roy Acuff House featuring a new exhibit charting the history of their radio station WSM which only recently relocated much closer to the mother ship.

As an added bonus, Gaylord Entertainment was previewing a documentary about the making of the album We Still Can't Say Goodbye: A Musicians' Tribute To Chet Atkins. This engaging film reminded folks of Chet's influence and should be on The Circle TV Network soon. Before and after we enjoyed musical performances by Lake & Lyndale and Charity Bowden while eating some free nachos and spicy queso provided by Torchy's Tacos.

As this Community Day also served as a lead in to the Opry's 99th birthday we found ourselves wondering what will be in store for the locals during the Centennial celebration in 2025 when 100 candles will be on the cake? Stay tuned.
