Kentucky's Wayne Graham Debut Their Ninth Studio Album Bastion at Bastion in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

Wayne Graham - the modern and experimental Appalachian rock band from Whitesburg, Kentucky - had a record release party at Bastion on Thursday, September 05, 2024. Funny enough the group's ninth studio album has the same name. The indie band features brothers Kenny and Hayden Miles along with Jose Oreta and Germany-based instrumentalist Ludwig Bauer who were all on hand at 434 Houston Street to get the celebration and party started.

Wayne Graham is a band and not a person!

The Bastion bar is known for their nachos that can be paired with drinks. The trendy Bastion is located in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood just south of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Bastion the record is a sonic blend of Appalachian, avant-garde, folk, jazz, rock and more. In addition to an assorted range of moods Wayne Graham explores the political tensions within families along with the broader themes of acceptance and finding common ground.

"Our music is the way it is because we're from here," says Hayden Miles. "It's very specifically Kentucky."

"As adults, however, they find themselves increasingly alienated from the culture and values of the place, a small town not unlike so many other small towns in America,” says Kenny, adding that β€œit feels strange to play our hometown, because our music isn't what people are looking for here.”

That dilemma, however, will not be a problem for the curiosuly compelling quartet who are scheduled to bring their intriguing musical hybrid to distant shores in Europe and the United Kingdom this coming November as part of their extensive touring cycle for Bastion.

Wayne Graham's stripped-down and acoustic three song live set in Nashville was well received, reflecting their eclectic fusion of sounds and styles. They utilized a stand-up bass for rhythm giving their music a down home rootsy feel. Afterwards, the band was around to mingle as the new record Bastion was played throughout the bar on vinyl for full audio effect.

Bastion features craft cocktails and designer nachos.
