BMI Rooftop On the Row Is THE Place To Go For an Unparalleled Party-Like Atmosphere in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

BMI hosted another amazing industry mixer on August 13, 2024 at their headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to music, there were drinks, food, swag and networking opportunities on the bill. Sponsors such as George Dickel Whiskey, White Claw and Yeti were pouring out the libations on this pleasant summer night while Texas Road House served up BBQ. The charismatic DJ Smoke was spinning tunes before and between the live performances.

This is THE Rooftop where all the magic happens on a regular basis in Nashville.

On Tuesday, BMI showcased two artists - Josh Ross & Lauren Watkins - who are getting some attention both here and beyond. Hailing from Canada, Josh is a Nashville based country singer and songwriter. He is managed by The Core Entertainment and signed to Universal Music Canada and Nashville. Ross has charted with a number of singles including "First Taste of Gone". Lauren Watkins was born and bred in Tennessee and - as she told us from the rooftop stage - she bleeds country music. Lauren writes insightful songs and has toured with the likes of Lily Rose, Maddie & Tae, Morgan Wallen and more.

Lauren with her very capable crew kicked off the festivities with the country inspired "One Trick Pony" that rode into "Gatlinburg" and "Amarillo Sky". Before playing that Jason Aldean cover, Watkins shared with the crowd that she enjoys turkey hunting with her dad. Apparently, they have a playlist that they listen to on their way to the woods and that song is on it - and her rendition was enjoyed by both of her parents who were in the house celebrating this big night with their daughter. "Shirley Temple" was a flavorful drinking song and Laurne closed her solid set with the relatable "Stuck in my Ways".

Josh who was backed by a full band came out swinging with covers and originals. Josh mentioned being on the road a lot and was happy to be home for this one night at BMI. He opened with the popular "On a Different Night". Singles such as "Red Flags", "Tell Me Lies", "Single Again" and "Moving On" reflected Ross's thoughts on relationships. Josh closed with his charting "Ain't Doin' Jack" and "Trouble" to the delight of his fans in attendance who on a number of occasions were singing along with Ross adding to the fun energy of his set.

BMI's rooftop concert series is an opportunity for the organization to introduce their musicians. BMI was founded in 1939 with the goal of supporting artists from a wide range of genres. Today, BMI is the largest music rights organization in the USA. BMI promotes the value of music by representing over 18.7 million musical works created and owned by more than 1.2 million songwriters, composers and music publishers. BMI also provides career advice in the areas of licensing, showcasing, training and more.

Another BMI Rooftop On the Row is in the books.
