CatVideoFest Returns For a Good Cause, Claws and Paws at the Belcourt Theater in Nashville
by Rich and Laura Lynch
Team MCN has become rather fond of many prominent feline rescue organizations in the Mid-Tenn region especially - The Catio, Catfeine Cat Cafe, Music City Animal Rescue (MCAR) and the The Humane Society of Sumner County. On a larger scale CatVideoFest is an annual nationwide theatrical event that helps groups like these by donating a portion of their ticket sales to them. In the case of the two showings of the film on Sunday, August 04, 2024 at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee - the beneficiary of the fundraiser was Music City's own Nashville Cat Rescue who was on site with a few kittens ready to be adopted.
The CatVideoFest returned to Nashville at the Belcourt Theatre in 2024.
CatVideoFest is a compilation of cat videos culled from countless hours of unique submissions and sourced animations, music videos and classic Internet favorites. It is a celebration of cats and champions animal welfare groups, cat charities and shelters. CatVideoFest boasts that they offer a joyous communal experience that is only available in theaters that raises money for cats in need. Sure enough, we saw lots of feline aficionados sporting related t-shirts as they lined up in anticipation for the movie in Nashville.
The Nashville Cat Rescue (NCR) and their recognizable Catmobile were parked outside to introduce folks to a number of felines ready to be re-homed. Their Director Eva McCallister spoke briefly about how this organization that started out small in 2005 is now a sizable group that rescues homeless cats and those in high-kill shelters. Operating without a brick-and-mortar facility and without a paid staff, NCR relies on the dedication of fosters and volunteers to rescue, house and prepare their animals for adoption.
CatVideoFest covered a lot of ground. We saw cats interacting with dogs, humans and other felines. We laughed as various cats played, caused mischief or created music. Our favorite clip was of the grouping of three indoor cats who were hilariously spooked by an outside "orange ghoul". The film is family friendly and is a fun way for people to come together for a good cause. If CatVideoFest comes to your community - please check it out and remember to generously support those who work hard to help cats in need.
Eva McCallister of the Nashville Cat Rescue (NCR) spoke for a few moments and then the fest began.
