In Music City, Vinyl Is Making a Colorful Comeback at Chauvet Arts Nashville
by Rich and Laura Lynch
We all know that vinyl records have been experiencing the most unlikely of comebacks this past decade or so. Fans and collectors of vintage albums and new releases have all been drawn to the large format for all of its tangible and intangible benefits. Now, an art gallery in Nashville is celebrating the format and calling for contributions as long as they fit some very specific record-centric parameters.
LP Canvas: Vinyl Art in Music City opens in Nashville.
Team MCN stopped by Chauvet Arts Nashville located at 215 Rep. John Lewis Way North on Saturday, July 6, 2024 for the Grand Opening of LP Canvas: Vinyl Art in Music City that presented the vibrant intersection of art and music by celebrating the timeless allure of vinyl records. Art aficionados gathered during the First Saturday Art Crawl to take in the many interpretations of the form. Some artists chose to work with real albums - painting them or etching them into music and city themed sculptures.
Fleetwood Mac's Rumours at Chauvet Arts Nashville.
Our favorites from the evening were the many three-dimensional mock-ups of famous releases that were adorning the walls that really brought so many classic recordings to life in a whole new way. What tied the whole collection together was the fact that all the pieces needed to be presented in 12"x12", 7"x7" or a circle that has a diameter of 12" or 7" in order to replicate the exact size of an LP or 45 single. Fair enough and brilliant, too.
Journey's Evolution at Chauvet Arts Nashville.
Chauvet Arts wants to see your talent! They are still curating this particular exhibit. In the modern era where getting word out about your music and selling records is getting more and more difficult - maybe some of the musicians in East Nashville can start working on creating works of art out of their own back catalogs. Because, this sounds like a great opportunity for some free promotion. If accepted, chosen pieces will be exhibited at Chauvet Arts gallery through September 2024.
