The Catio Is Cool For Cats in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

With the new wave legends Squeeze - who had early success with the song and album of the same name Cool For Cats - coming to town this weekend, we decided it was a perfect time to revisit The Catio located in the shadow of the Grand Ole Opry House where Glenn, Chris and company were scheduled to perform on Sunday. The U.K. rockers are heroes of ours so it was fitting that it was movie night on Friday, September 15, 2023 when DC League of Super-Pets was on tap along with the opportunity to meet a lot of mostly friendly felines.

The Catio Cat Lounge is one cool spot in Nashville.

The Catio in Nashville, Tennessee is an adoption center and cat lounge in the Music Valley area. Their felines come from the Nashville Cat Rescue. The Catio is a cool spot for locals and tourists to interact with cats. They have a number of spacious rooms with baskets of toys, beds, bowls, perches and scratching posts to keep the cats busy and allow time for their personalities to emerge.

The recently arrived Kristoff was super cool, soft and friendly.

If you follow The Catio on social media, you will see that they share plenty of photos and descriptions of their residents so that perspective parents can find a good match as not everyone is ready for a high energy kitten although they are super cute. During a visit to The Catio you might make a connection. From there you will meet with a counselor and if approved your new friend might be going home with you on the same day.

Come find a new friend at The Catio.

All of their animals are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and tested. Adoption charges are around $150.00 per cat which covers veterinarian costs. Fees to hang out with the critters pays for food, fun items and litter to keep the residents happy and healthy.

These two were content to hang in their elevated cat house for most of the night.

If you are not ready for a pet, The Catio hosts various events so that folks can interact with the cats plus these special occasions raise money to keep the organization running smoothly. Options include art, bingo, meals, movies, and yoga. On this film night light snacks and soft drinks were available but best of all there was a bunch of cuddly cats available to meet and greet.

Lucy was a very pretty - but pretty spicy - kitty.

One of our first encounters was with Kristoff. We were told that he was a recent arrival from the streets of Memphis. Despite some tough times he was ready to engage with the public and seemed to enjoy being pet so before long Kristoff might be the king in a new home. There were a number of youngsters who were happily playing with visitors. Others were sitting with dignity watching things unfold while others preferred to curl up in cubby holes for a nap. A few felines looked like they were interested in the movie that came out in 2022 to generally positive reviews. One of the ideas of that film was animals finding their humans which is one of the main goals of The Catio.

Me! Me! Me! Pick me!

The Catio is a cool spot in Nashville that provides entertainment while doing good works in the animal community. As we were leaving - we were told that we were getting a bonus behind the scenes look at the inner workings of The Catio when a van filled with 36 cat carriers had pulled up to bring in new felines who had just been spayed and neutered at NCR. That explained why there was a large presence of caring and enthusiastic staff who were on hand to assist with the new arrivals. Since 2019, The Catio has been a haven for rescued cats giving them a bright and joyful space to live while helping them find their furever homes. If you can please consider adoption or attending one of their events that support the cats.

This van brought 36 new arrivals to The Catio on Friday night.
