AmericanaFest Gets Off to a Big Start with Kingfish at BMI Rooftop Opening Night Party

by Rich and Laura Lynch

It's not often that your up and coming musician is a giant of his genre and a legitimate award-winning star at the age of only twenty-three years old. But, in the case of contemporary blues guitarist Christone "Kingfish" Ingram - it's true. Kingfish is the reigning king of his class having secured a Grammy award for "Best Contemporary Blues Album" for his stunning sophomore release 662 at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in 2021. So, his appearance at the BMI Rooftop on September 13, 2022 was a most fitting way to launch this year's much anticipated AmericanaFest in Music City.

Christone "Kingfish" Ingram wows the large crowd gathered on the BMI Rooftop in 2022.

So, AmericanaFest is a slightly different take on the music scene in Music City. Now, fully restored after a medically restricted return in 2021 the festival that celebrates the wide and varied influence of America on both domestic and international artistry - welcomes music aficionados from all over the globe to share in the festivities with an almost religious fervor. So, when Kingfish leaned into it and began bending the strings on his long blues excursions shouts of joy and awe tinged with many foreign accents filled the Nashville night blaring from the top of Broadcast Music Inc's favorite party spot on Music Row.

It may just be a quirky coincidence that Christone "Kingfish" Ingram hails from Clarksdale, Mississippi - the locale where Robert Johnson allegedly made a deal with the devil almost 90 years earlier to launch the form of blues guitar into public consciousness. But, whatever the case may be Kingfish is doing something right - turning heads, winning fans and earning accolades wherever he masterfully plays that guitar of his. His exhilarating skill thrilled the educated ears of AmericanaFest attendees in Nashville, too. We can only hope he sticks around a bit longer than Mr. Johnson.

The Kingfish band brought the blues and then some and got the party started in Music City.
