We checked out Wine Down for the first time on May 16, 2021. On tap was a Beatles Brunch hosted by Philip Shouse and Monica Lewellen. Brunch was a tasty fair that featured carbs, eggs, fruit, hash browns, meat and salad. Mimosas along with wine were also available. Good music coupled with good food made for a pleasant afternoon.

Philip Shouse is a well-respected guitarist known for his role in the Nashville based Thee Rock N' Roll Residency. He has also performed with Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons, John Corabi of Mötley Crüe and others. Philip is currently in the heavy metal band Accept and he founded Mutt Merch which raises awareness for rescue animal organizations while fitting people and pooches in rock gear with a doggy twist. Monica Lewellen has worked with Krantz, Post Malone, Travis Tritt and Kid Rock. Monica speaks several languages and holds a Masters in Linguistics. This talented singer/songwriter is currently focusing on a solo career while still collaborating with other artists.

During their two hour set the duo strummed and sang about thirty Beatles songs with a lot from the early days but also gems from the later years which included a three track closer from Let It Be. Some of the highlights included "Things We Said Today", "No Reply" and "It Won't Be Long". Philip switched to a 12-string for "Birthday", "Every Little Thing" and more. Even on just acoustic guitars they handled more complex pieces such as "Rocky Raccoon" and "I Am The Walrus" with plenty of oomph. On this occasion the pair did not have a set list, instead they let the mood and requests determine the direction of the music which worked out fine in this casual setting. Their selections were a reminder of how many great songs the Fab Four had and we enjoyed the couple's recap.

Wine Down is a music/event based wine boutique that captures the spirit of Nashville in their cozy confines. Please visit Wine Down's website for a full list of happenings and it is our understanding that Philip and Monica will be back August 8, 2021 to serve up another flavorful Beatles Brunch so mark your calendars.
