GLOW Is a Worthy New Holiday Attraction in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

As one of the newest must-see holiday attractions, GLOW Nashville showcases one of the country's tallest Christmas trees, millions of lights adorning larger-than-life sculptures, Santa's Workshop and immersive activities. GLOW is taking place at First Tennessee Park located at 19 Junior Gilliam Way, Nashville, TN for 36 nights between November 22nd and December 31, 2019.

GLOW Holiday strikes a chord in Music City.

GLOW has converted the baseball stadium into a winter wonderland all visible from the main concourse but walking among the lights and looking at the animal sculptures such as polar bears is all part of the magic. The Frozen Fortress is central as this stunning structure affords visitors various viewing platforms over an ice rink.

Blitzen's Band Box is the "it" spot at GLOW for adults to consume custom holiday cocktails while gazing upon lots of lights and the Nashville skyline. This area is decked out with fire pits, igloos and themed entertainment like curling and ice shots. The Mistletoe Café has holiday snacks, classic Christmas movies running along with holiday music. A large present among all the pretty displays is where Santa's workshop is. Tables and chairs are set-up for crafts as Elves dance, juggle and sing. While we were there an animated elf played "Frosty the Snowman" on the fiddle. Of course, the Man in Red was there for list giving and photos.

The Winterfest Market is under cover on the concourse and features authentic Nashville gifts from local vendors such as Cement6 who uses repurposed cement bags to make new items. EV Originals has sassy sauces while Bang Candy sells handmade delights for the adventurous palate. Shaya Jewelry showcased cow skin shoes with matching belts as well as their namesake. We meet a school teacher who was promoting "My Gnome on the Roam" an interactive craft and workbook in which children or adults can create their own gnome and personalize his explorations beyond the garden.

On opening night, a number of special guests were on site to celebrate. Before the lighting of the 100 plus foot tree members from the Salvation Army talked about their Angel Tree program that started back in 1979 to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas time. Musician Jimmy Wayne shared how he got his first guitar from The Army and how it changed his life.

Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton was also at GLOW to take a few spins on the ice before chatting with local media about his Skating Academy whose mission is to make skating available to people of all ages, abilities and descriptions. Mixed in with his enthusiastic reaction to GLOW, Scott mentioned his upcoming annual benefit show that features World & National Champion Skaters with musicians performing together in support of Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation. His organization is working on improving cancer research and treatments.

A GLOW general admission ticket gives patrons access to "Nashville's Brightest Christmas Experience", the Winterfest Market, Santa's Workshop, Blitzen's Band Box and the Mistletoe Cafe. Additional fun for a fee includes ice skating, a reindeer run tube ride and specialty food and drinks along with concessions. GLOW is set-up for holiday parties with suites available for rental paired with beverage and food service. Another option is a VIP ticket that includes a rotating menu of chef-curated buffet meals, premium parking and assess to the VIP Lounge with its elevated views of the lights.
