Nashville Knights - Not Their Night in Music City

by Rich and Laura Lynch

It was a battle dubbed the "Music City Bowl" as the Austin Acoustic visited the home turf of the Nashville Knights on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the vintage downtown dome known as the Municipal Auditorium in a Legends Football League match with real playoff implications on the line. When the final second clicked off the clock the team from Texas emerged victorious to continue their made for TV season while for the hometown heroes it was "wait until next year".

There was plenty of intrigue and sexy storylines as the game "kicked off" nearly twenty minutes after the scheduled start time printed on the ticket. Much of the interest circled around the game's rival signal callers Molly Richardson of the Knights and Austin's Michelle Angel's who were leading the league one and two respectively in passing going into the evening's showdown. The two gorgeous generals each marched their teams down the field with both gals completing many memorable bombs and shorter strikes along the way.

We were impressed by the two team's level of play and commitment to taking the field in very little clothing where danger loomed with every snap. In fact, several players were seen limping off the field during the game's four ten-minute quarters that proved these ladies came to play.

One thing that became apparent from the stands is that the LFL is not really family-friendly entertainment. We observed few if any actual family units taking in the action perhaps weary of wardrobe malfunctions and the heavy emphasis on imbibing that was provided by the "chug cam". With only two home games per season it's also difficult for a team like the Knights to make a dent in the community as a social force. The LFL is now ten years in to the growth of their game that features quality women athletes who are over-exposed and under-paid. If the league can figure out a way to address these issues - well, that would be legendary.
