Hard Rockers Bishop Gunn to Put Two in the Chamber at Pilgrimage Festival

by Rich and Laura Lynch

They been compared to classic rock bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin and come this weekend you'll have two chances to see what the fuss is all about as Bishop Gunn makes a highly anticipated return to Franklin, Tennessee for appearances at the Pilgrimage Festival on September 22 and 23.

The boys from Natchez, Mississippi are riding high on their debut album Natchez that pays homage to the musical roots and substantial historical importance of their hometown on the banks of The Big Muddy. The quality quartet is always gunning to add to the ever growing "chillers" fanbase and they will be making their case at the Americana Music Triangle on Saturday at 1:40 p.m. and on Sunday at Solo Cup Harpeth River at 10:30 a.m.

The Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival will take place at The Park at Harlinsdale in Franklin, Tennessee. Topping the expansive list of musicians are Jack White, Lionel Richie, Hozier, Counting Crows and Amos Lee on Saturday. Sunday's highlights include Christ Stapleton, Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds, Brandi Carlile, Bleachers and Lord Huron. There will be over 60 diverse acts spread out over six stages during this popular two day event. Music starts at 11 a.m.

Bishop Gunn makes a pilgrimage back to Franklin in 2018.

In addition to music the Festival features the Millville Market a mini village where folks can relax. Farm To Turn-Table is where food trucks, shade and tables will be. Activities for children along with a Made South Makers Village showcasing local artisans are also part of the festivities.

"Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival was inspired by friendship, history, experience and the desire to create an authentic music festival. Three years ago, Musician and Franklin, TN resident Kevin Griffin was on a September morning run through The Park at Harlinsdale, a century-old horse farm recently purchased by the City of Franklin. Kevin was so taken by the rolling hills, natural amphitheaters, and breathtaking vistas of the 230-acre farm, he envisioned it as a natural fit for a music festival venue. Considering Franklin's music and cultural history, Kevin wanted the community to further appreciate combining this with the beauty and rustic quality of Middle Tennessee in the fall, and with the blessing of the City, began to dream up a music festival to do it justice."

"Partnered with lifelong buddies W. Brandt Wood and Michael Whelan, the trio aspired to highlight the diversity and community spirit of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, tailoring the best elements to Franklin - a richly historic town just 20 minutes south of Nashville. Like Jazz Fest, Pilgrimage takes place during the day, and offers a diverse yet renowned lineup of rock and roll, alt-country, bluegrass, jazz, indie, gospel and more. Plus the aforementioned extras."
