The Catio Marks a Major Milestone in Nashville's Music Valley

by Rich and Laura Lynch

The Catio cat cafe in Nashville, Tennessee opened their doors in 2019. Now, five years later they have just celebrated their 5000th adoption when on July 2, 2024 a cute grey kitten named Flo found her furever home. To celebrate - they hosted a special $5 admission rate the following day so your team from MCN headed down McGavock Pike to look for a few of our friends.

Our pal - the friendly cat - Walter at The Catio.

Sure enough we were able to meet up with two of our favorite felines who are long term residents. This pair were probably lost in the shuffle of the recent busy kitten season as the youngest and newest cats got scooped up fast in the past 45 days or so at The Catio. This underscores one reality in pet adoption - some animals sometimes take a bit longer to find their human than others.

Meet WALTER - a seven and a half year old Domestic Short Hair who is described as an adult male - medium. We are really fond of Walter who is said to be independent, dignified, quiet, smart, protective, brave and just a bit of a couch potato. Walter had a loving family - but, for no fault of his own - he was returned. He is trying to see this as a great opportunity to find an extra special family to love him. He is having trouble adjusting to losing his home so he does need time and patience before he shows off his winning personality. Walter does like to play even if he likes to play hard to pet. After repeated visits he recognized us on our return and warmed up considerably by laying next to us for about 30 seconds before moving on to the food dish. Still, it seemed to us that maybe we weren't his humans.

Come to the fair in September to learn everything there is to know about The Catio.

Meet DUKE! His bio describes him as a Domestic Medium Hair - male. This five year old big boy is FIV+ which just means he needs some extra love and attention. He is friendly, brave, smart and affectionate. We have known Duke for a few months now and he always comes up to us to make his charismatic presence known every time we walk through The Catio's double doors. Duke is a star and no doubt he will be moving out of those doors to his loving new residence any day now.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The Catio has announced a very special Craft & Food Fair at The Catio on September 21 with room for 50 vendors both available inside and outside. Food trucks will be on site and admission will be free to all customers. This event will represent a perfect opportunity to come down to the Opyland region and learn all about the good work The Catio, its employees and volunteers continue to pursue in helping many thousands of Nashville cats to date find their perfect home.

Duke remains the king of The Catio - but, for how long?
