The Catio Opens Its Purrfect New Home in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

The Catio situated in the Music Valley section of Nashville, Tennessee marked the Grand Opening of their new larger location on April 06, 2024 with an all-day celebration that included cake and plenty of cuddles from their 50+ mostly friendly felines who were available for adoption and looking for their forever homes.

A Grand Re-Opening just a few doors down from their former home.

The Catio is a non-profit cat lounge who opened their doors in 2019 and with their partners the Nashville Cat Rescue they have already facilitated thousands of adoptions in that time frame. The Catio - now located just a few doors down from their prior pet friendly space - now boasts more room for beds, feeding stations, perches, scratching posts and toys for an interactive and fun feline-themed environment.

Of course, this new chapter didn't begin without many tears and fears as things were looking bleak for their senior cat branch known as The Senior Catio when news reports broke in January that the recently opened shelter for older cats was facing eviction from their short-lived Mt. Juliet home. But, a happy ending prevailed when the current landlord stepped up to offer a larger space to house both entities under one roof.

We arrived at nip and nap time in Nashville.

So, today - you can walk into the lobby of the expanded enterprise, check in and find out about their current residents ready for adoption. Kenny the charismatic lobby cat may be in the shop overseeing things. The rest of the crew is in the other rooms. The right side of The Catio is now dedicated to the seniors who are more mature and/or may have medical needs. These cool cats prefer a calmer setting. So, this is the ideal spot for folks who are looking for a mellow feline friend.

The main room is now much larger and characterized by several hundred square feet in an L-shape layout where the majority of the cats live. There are plenty of platforms for the them to climb and perch. Some prefer to lounge on the couches and meet potential parents there, while others like to hide. There are toys and tunnels for the cats - and, of course, a steady parade of human vistors for them to meet.

With so many cats to choose from - it's best if you let them choose you!

The Catio is a welcoming environment to engage with cats The staff at The Catio can often share insights into the personalities of their residents which may help in picking the right pet. However, it is often said that cats pick you. If you are not quite ready for that step your visit supports the positive work that The Catio is doing.

This forward-thinking cat lounge gives rescues a joyful space to live while helping them find their furever homes. If you can please consider adoption (fees pay for veterinarian cost as all their cats are fixed and up to date on vaccines) or for a small fee you can hang out with the cats in their new larger Music Valley location. Financial, food, litter and toy donations are also appreciated.

Over 50 cats like this guy were enjoying their new digs on Saturday.
