by Rich and Laura Lynch

Cirque du Soleil's Songblazers is coming to Nashville, Tennessee this summer! The show will be hosted by the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) July 02-28,2024. Songblazers – A Journey into Country Music is a theatrical presentation honoring legendary and modern-day trailblazers. The story will be told through acrobatics and music thus blending mesmerizing movement with the soul-stirring muse that the country category is so well-known for.

Songblazers got off to a great start at The Fisher Center in Nashville.

Cirque du Soleil with Universal Music Group Nashville revealed details at a media event that was held at the Fisher Center in Nashville on June 05, 2024, where we were treated to a glimpse into a show that has the potential to be a smash hit. As we took our seats in the elegant Fisher Center we were greeted by a bright backdrop. The creators of this production shared a broad overview of their vision stating that the idea was to write a show about writing a song. This is Cirque du Soleil's first venture into country music and Songblazers is their love song to it. The team behind the scenes are all entertainment experts who have worked on numerous top tier presentations. This is also Cirque du Soleil's entry into producing shows for a smaller theatrical run. So, the classic entertainment company is itself boldy blazing new trails with the introduction of the much-anticipated Songblazers.

A skilled dance number with multiple Red Solo cups made a statement in Nashville.

After a few more words about Songblazers, four of the twenty-nine cast members came out to sing "Carnival Heart" an original tune written for Songblazers. The composition which captures the emotions of the genre was a co-write. One of the collaborators being Sam Williams who is the grandson of Hank Willliams and son of Hank Jr. (it does not get more country than that). The colorful curtain rose, and we found ourselves in a honky-tonk packed with an assortment of characters. They performed a quick line dance before one of them stepped out with a witty tribute to red solo cups and a juggling segment on steroids.

This clown brought a sax to the circus.

Cirque du Soleil is perhaps best known for acrobatics, so the next number featured two daring ladies twisting and turning above the bustling bar to the upbeat "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" by Shania Twain. This duo was heart stopping in more than one way. Our 15-minute glimpse into Songblazers proved that this creative concept could soon top the theatrical charts.

These acrobatic young ladies had us on the edge of our seats with their impressive high-flying antics.
