Sumner Humane Society Preps a Half Century Celebration in Hendersonville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

In Mid-Tenn we have supported several pet themed organzitions learning much about all of them in the process. The Catio in the Music Valley - and The Catfeine Cat Cafe in Murfreesboro - are each around five years old. Last fall we helped recogzine the 10-year journey of Music City Animal Rescue on Kenny Roger's former ranch near the Lebanon Pike. But, one local organization surpasses them all in length of service when the Sumner County Humane Society will celebrate 50 years of care at their Annual Puttin' on the Dog/Cat Gala with Glitter and Gold upcoming on September 28, 2024 in Hendersonville.

Heather Jones and Katie in Hendersonville.

We learned all about this at a recent visit to the organization's home base on 16 Volunteer Drive in early April. There we met Adoption Center Manager Heather Jones who showed us around and introduced us to several of her current residents including Katie who was sitting in her lap as we spoke.

We also met Mr. Bits - a lovable adult male orange cat who weighed in at over 25 pounds. We felt the extreme tug to pull the lever on him. Then, we saw the kitten room - OMG. Happily - the chunky or chonky - Mr. Bits has found a new home and has been adopted. Certainly, in a perfect world we would love to save them all. But, luckily for us we have operations in place like like the Sumner County Humane Society who are more than worthy of being championed and supported.

BREAKING NEWS: Mr. Bits got adopted!

HSSC has diligently served in the local community since 1974 and they are solely supported by donations. The adoption staff joins loving, qualified and responsible people with a variety of animals while working to re-unite incoming lost animals with their guardians. HSSC encourages the public to help control the over-pet population through spay and neuter awareness.

So - Save the Date! You can help Sumner County Humane Society mark 50 amazing years of work at the Annual Puttin' on the Dog/Cat Gala with Glitter and Gold to be held at the Bluegrass Country Club located at 550 Johnny Cash Parkway in Hendersonville, TN 37075.
