Herrick and MCAR – Talented Musicians Backing a Worthy Cause in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

The band Herrick has recently signed on as official spokespersons for Music City Animal Resue (MCAR). Herrick are scheduled to support this worthy organization at an adoption event that will be held at Total Wine and More in Brentwood, Tennessee on May 18th, 2024 from 12 to 4 PM.

Herrick is a dynamic music group who have been working together since middle school. They moved from Washington State to Nashville to take their sound to the next level. Herrick is described as a patchwork of lives lived together. Their music melds compelling compositions with harmonies and solid instrumentation in a unique style that they call county soul on the rocks! Herrick has received a number of impressive accolades including two IAMA International Acoustic Awards, Folk/Bluegrass/Americana Group of the Year, as well as Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist (Donna Herrick) of the Year at the JMA Awards, plus a Bronze Telly Award.

Herrick are passionate about music and good causes which is why Herrick is supporting MCAR who has been in the field of animal rescue for over ten years. MCAR is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that cares for abandoned, abused or neglected animals in and around the Middle Tennessee area. Since MCAR does not have a physical location, they provide foster home for animals while finding them forever homes. Each cat, dog or other critters that enter their program become part of the MCAR family to be socialized and fully vetted meaning they are up to date on vaccinations and spay/neuter.

In addition to MCAR's network of devoted animal lovers, are business such as Total Wine and More who host adoptions events. The one on May 18th in Brentwood should be fun as it blends cuddly critters, live music and wine. Please stop by the Total Wine Place Shopping Center (Franklin Road #306C) between 12 to 4 PM, and/or consider helping MCAR with social media, events, transport - and, if you are able - FOSTERING. Financial support is also always appreciated.

We had a few minutes to catch up with HERRICK before their show in Brentwood.

MCN: What are some of your influences – any favorite artists?

Herrick: Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris.

MCN: What current projects are your working on and/or promoting?

Herrick: We are releasing a new album at the end of the year with singles going to country radio. The first single is a song we wrote with country hit Vocal engineer/Songwriter, Mark Lambert (Leon Russel, Ronnie Milsap, George Jones and more) called “You Come Around” a fun, soulful song with a twist on love.

MCN: Where do fans go to buy your music?

Herrick: Everything you need to know and more is at Herricklive.com!

MCN: Do you currently have any pets or fond memories of animals from your childhoods?

Herrick: The standard Chihuahua we have now is a rescue from the California fires that occurred in 2018.

My mom and dad were looking for a small dog and adopted her in Spokane Washington. They named her Daisy. She was a traumatized dog with many issues. They learned that she was rescued from the fires in California and that she had puppies, but her puppies were never found.

Before my Mom passed away, she asked that we take her in and care of her. We gladly did so. We have trained many dogs and are very comfortable with training. So my Mom knew she would be safe and that we would work with her and never leave her side.

Now Daisy is a happy. She no longer has any problems. And we have never had such a loving, obedient dog. I have never seen a chihuahua that does not bark at everything. She is confident and happy.

MCN: How did you learn about MCAR?

Herrick: We performed at their 10 year anniversary celebration. And we hit it off and believe in and Love this animal rescue.

Their hearts are in the right place and they do great work.

We hope that doing our part somehow helps spread the word about them and what they do.
