Remembering Charlie Daniels in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee

by Rich and Laura Lynch

Charlie Daniels is a Nashville legend and his personal staff and publicity team were always very kind to us here at MCN. That is why we made it a priority to pay our respects to him at his final resting place at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens not too far from his home in Tennessee.

Visiting the Charlie Daniels burial site in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

When visiting Charlie's memorial the first thing you will notice is that it fittingly lies in the shadow of a large American flag with several more situated around his grave marker that contains a long Bible verse and is similar in appearance to the Man in Black's tomb a few miles to the north in Hendersonville. A concrete contemplation bench nearby reminds us of the musical legacy of the man as it is emblazoned in the logos of the many Halls of Fame he was inducted into during his long and storied career.

Charlie Daniels brought his brand of Southern Rock up north to Pamona, NY in 2013.

The first time we ever covered the Charlie Daniels Band professionally was when they teamed up with .38 Special on August 28, 2013 to perform at the Provident Bank Park - a minor league baseball stadium in Pomona, New York. It is safe to say that CDB knocked it out of the park that night during an evening of great music that would foreshadow our own eventual move to Music City where we would find ourselves in the presence of Charlie's greatness many more times over the years.

The next time we would see the great American singer/songwriter, fiddler and guitar player would be at his 80th birthday bash at the Bridgestone Arena that doubled as the latest installment of his much loved Volunteer Jam. On this day we were able to inquire with Mr. CDB about his time playing the now defunct Starwood Amphitheater in Antioch which was pretty much a hometown show for him. Without saying why, he pretty much declared that he didn't have favorable memories of the experience. But, he forgave us for asking.

The last time we saw Charlie Daniels was on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 when he served as Master of Ceremonies at the second annual "Charlie Daniels Patriot Award Dinner" that was held at The Palm Restaurant in Nashville just a few short months before his untimely and unexpected passing. Charlie had read some of our recent coverage and added us to the media list to help promote his important and patriotic endeavor. We always joke that we will never forget the night that Charlie Daniels bought us a steak and lobster dinner just as much as we will never forget the larger than life man himself.
