The Heavy Heavy Make a Weighty American Debut at AmericanaFest in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

One of the reasons we love Music City so much is because we are constantly discovering new music here. After making their American debut at the BMI Rooftop on the Row opening night jam during AmericanaFest on September 13, 2022 we can now declare The Heavy Heavy from Brighton, England to be one of our newest favorite bands.

Brighton, England's The Heavy Heavy has recently expanded to a five-piece lineup.

Led by the kindred spirits of Will Turner and Georgie Fuller, The Heavy Heavy has recently expanded to a five-piece lineup with an even more effusive and unfettered sound, which is put on full display in the music video for the brand new, summer highway-ready single, "Miles and Miles." Racking up six-figure views in less than seven days after its release proves that the numbers are tallying in the right direction for THH as they begin to tip the scales with streams and views. Their appearance in Nashville was their American debut with more than 30 dates still to come ahead of them - some with new labelmates Black Pumas and St. Paul and The Broken Bones.

The Heavy Heavy are led by the kindred spirits of Will Turner and Georgie Fuller.

At Americanfest, The Heavy Heavy definitely had the attention of the large crowd on Music Row as they opened with a neo-surf instrumental before breaking out their repertoire consisting of an incandescent collision of rock n roll, psychedelic blues and sunshine pop. They were awesome if slightly hard to classify. They were definitely marrying elements of new wave and classic rock and at one point even sounded like a mix of the Jefferson Airplane meeting late 70's Squeeze - and that's a heavy (heavy) sound that you don't necessarily hear every day. Fans in Nashville will get another chance to check out The Heavy Heavy when they return to town for a November 15 slot at The Basement. I know we'll be there!
