Shane Pi Gets Rolling in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

"I need to be creative all the time," said musician and artist Shane Pi following his full band artist showcase at the SIDEBAR inside the Bode Hotel on Saturday, April 30, 2022 that was being filmed for future release on his digital media channels.

Shane Pi added some tasty licks to his songs at the SIDEBAR.

Shane originally hails from Boston and he told MCN that he found his way to Tennessee when the pandemic scrubbed his planned relocation to New York City and that decision and change of direction seems to be working out for the friendly and talented 26-year old who has just released his debut EP Is This Art? that is already racking up high praise from journalists from around the world.

That's probably because Pi - a captivating singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer - is putting his own brushstrokes on the familiar as he draws upon a wide range of inspiration and styles including jazz, punk, R&B, rock and soul and he cites the following influences Pink Floyd, The Bee Gees, Tame Impala, Steely Dan, Connan Mockasin, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

Shane Pi and a four piece band put their music on display in Nashville.

"It seems like a great place to build a career," Shane said of the town known as Music City and he reflected that things are working out pretty well for him as he arrived with a distribution deal in tow that has allowed him to line up some heavy duty support on the management and publicity side of things.

His official introduction came a week earlier at a well attended album release party at the Social Sometimes Art Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. That concert also featured opening slots by Laney Jones and Mikei. This event allowed Shane to put his full talent on display as his artwork and digital animation enhanced the performance.

Shane Pi has a formula that combines contemporary and retro sounds in songs that are insightful as they touch upon life experiences that the listener can connect with. He is an expressive singer and his band comprised of friends and players from the talented Nashville pool did a fine job of punctuating Shane Pi's prose.

Say hello to Shane Pi.

Shane Pi revealed to us at the Bode that he has two more EPs ready to be released in quick succession that are tied together thematically and with his artwork serving as a focal point. So, it's a good bet that Shane and Co. will be back out there doing it all over again before too long.

The Bode Hotel is located at 401 2nd Avenue in Nashville, Tennessee and the SIDEBAR is an intimate room with art that adorns its walls. They serve beer along with signature cocktails that can be enjoyed while listening to local acts such as Shane Pi and who knows you might be seeing a star on the rise there.

Shane Pi's debut EP was released in April of 2022.
