Nashville SC Soccer Is Something to Experience in Music City

by Rich and Laura Lynch

Against all odds and despite the negative prognostications of local footy pundits who didn't think there was a chance in H-E-double-toothpicks that the Nashville franchise would be competitive out the box when they took the field officially in 2020 - Nashville SC has emerged as one of the most exciting clubs in Major League Soccer. In fact, the have just completed their successful sophomore season that finds them returning to the playoffs for a second year in a row. If their last home game against the New York Red Bulls on November 7, 2021 proved anything - it's that going to a soccer match in Music City is one of the most entertaining experiences this town has to offer.

Experience the action on the field.

Consider the experience on the field. The team known to fans as the "Boys In Gold" are led by league MVP candidate midfielder Hany Mukhtar and on the defensive side Walker Zimmerman who is so respected that he has earned a starting spot on the U.S. Men's National Team who are currently in contention to be included in the 2022 Word Cup. Together with other fan favorites Anibal Godoy, Randall Leal, Dax McCarty and Joe Willis this electric squad just became the seventh team in MLS history to finish a season unbeaten at home.

Home games are an experience unto themselves and the fun begins in the parking lot pre-game as a variety of tail-gating and parties take place just outside the stadium. A growing variety of supporter groups conduct their own meet-ups that usually include a fair amount of food and beverage consumption. Super fan Soccer Moses was on site to offer a commanding presence as he served up tasty samples of a new beer that bears his holy image on the can. Fans lined up in front of a local BMW dealership to take their chance on winning a sweet jersey signed by the whole team.

Experience the excitement in the stands.

Once inside the arena fans take on an even more important role. They become the "12th man" on the field as the most ardent of them take up position in the backline section behind the east goal. This group has grown larger with each game and more competent at calling back the cheers their leaders in the front yell out. Finally, after a season and a half of not really being able to coalesce as they would have liked due to Covid limitations - this group has become a formidable force to be reckoned with.

Another king of the concourse is "Tempo" the official coyote themed mascot who riles up the masses while good-naturedly poking fun at the competition and their home cities. Being in Music City, Nashville SC is making some hits of their own as the greatest plays of every game are cut onto vinyl in real time as the action happens. Other pre-game action is provided by local musicians, emerging acts and rock legends. At this game the National Anthem was sung beautifully by the harmonious trio Temecula Road. The opening guitar riff was played by a contest winner Miguel Cancino.

Soccer Moses is a super fan with a tasty drink that bears his likeness.

Cancino had the experience of a lifetime and got the party started as the whistle blew while his notes were still reverberating throughout Nissan Stadium. The Gibson Guitar Riff is usually reserved for superstars like Joe Bonamassa, Dave Mustaine and John Oates who all had turns showing off their chops to start off macthes this season. The contest was Nashville SC's way of giving back and throwing their hat in the ring as discoverers of musical gems in this city that overflows with talent in that regard.

Nashville SC allows fans from other markets to experience the fun as well. Throughout the year we have spoken to visitors who have all universally reported positive feedback on their time in town. Next year, with a move to the western division of the league a whole new batch of supporters will make the trek to Music City. And, while Nissan Stadium has been a fine home and gracious host even greater things are on the horizon as the club is set to open a fabulous new venue next season that is set to be the largest soccer specific stadium in the United States. We can't wait to experience that!!!
