Javelyn Goes For the Gold in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

"The gold is here in Nashville," declared Javelyn at a Wednesday afternoon event at Belcourt Taps. The California native was explaining how her former home was known for it's miners and movie empires and while the Golden State has a substantial entertainment scene she now believes that the true essence of the musician can be more easily discovered here in Music City.

Javelyn is an experienced independent artist, singer, songwriter and overall musical mentor. In Los Angeles she founded a series called "Java With Javelyn" where she hosted and performed with some of the hottest live and recorded indie acts in L.A. From this event she spearheaded the production of four indie compilation CDs. Fans might also recognize her work in the web-based television series called "Adventures With Javelyn" on QuaHZ TV that also spotlights emerging talent - often in a dreamlike and fantastical setting.

Now, Javelyn is taking aim at digging up some of the best local talent from her new home base in Tennessee. On Monday, December 9, 2019 the first Javelyn-hosted "Songwriter's Circle with a Twist" made its debut in Hendersonville at the warm and welcoming room inside the recently opened Lili Bella's Cakes that featured nearly a dozen performing artists from around the region. MCN's own Rockin' Rich Lynch stepped out from behind the editing desk to play three of his own Nashville penned tunes. Dickson's Mike Shipley was sharp having gained a lot of experience as a published writer while leading his own monthly guitar pulls on his farm in God's country.

The award-winning Kirstie Krause was impressive. Hot off of her stellar take on "Jolene" she was a featured artist at the bakery and surprised the crowd with her confessional "Sorry Is Not Enough". Jesse Lopez followed with a set that showcased his well-honed style garnered from years of busking throughout the continental United States. Kirk Jones made the trek all the way from Huntsville, Alabama and knocked out some unique cover versions while leaving the door open to play his own forthcoming compositions at future events.

At the Belcourt, Javelyn played her own engaging songs on ukulele and keyboard including the riveting "Come Fly With Me" that succinctly underscored her own personal mission statement. While not performing she was working as a scout to discover new bookings for future songwriter showcase rounds. Deb Guy - who was manning the taps at Belcourt Taps - took a turn behind the mic and described how her journey to Nashville via Kentucky was already paying off nicely with many opportunities and doors opening for her in this town.

Other hopefuls at the Belcourt session included Connor Myers - a tattooed young gun with good looks, dark features and ample talent. Hailing from New Jersey and just out of the Marine Corps he moved to Music City with a new mission to pursue his music. Mid-Tenn may have just found it's new version of Johnny Cash with Springsteen sensibility. The Boss's own producer Ron Aniello must think so, too, as the pair just completed some sessions recently. Myers received an invite to play at one of Shipley's upcoming guitar pulls near the Johnny Cash farm in Bon Aqua.

Another standout was Keifer Wiley who fresh off of touring around the world as a dynamic cruise ship entertainer. With a powerful, moving and convincing vocal approach it was clear that he is ready to set sail in his own right as a solo artist. Javelyn thought so as well as he accepted an invite to play at the next "Songwriter's Circle with a Twist" on January 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Hendersonville. So, as 2020 approaches it remains true that a major factor for success in Mid-Tenn will depend on making connections and sweet confections. Come on out to Lili Bella's Cakes to get a taste of the talent that is cooking in the region. Anything else that happens will be the icing on the cake.
