by Rich and Laura Lynch

If you are a human being residing at the moment in Middle Tennessee one thing you know about for sure is traffic. A lesser understood subject might be the painful topic of human trafficking. But, on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 concerned citizens and music fans in the region had an opportunity to learn more about one group's efforts to help the victims of this violent crime when Kim Westfall and representatives of Uncaged held a high-powered gathering to kick-off their cause at Franklin Creative Studios in Williamson County.

Phil Keaggy never ceases to amaze in a live setting.

Longtime Franklin resident and legendary guitarist Phil Keaggy was on hand to lend support in a loose environment that was more akin to a club show than the church settings the musician regularly plays. Still, Phil was in fine form as he ran through two sets that included many of his greatest hits highlighted by "Salvation Army Band", "What A Day" and "True Believers" that showcased his six-string mastery and adept looping skills that he has perfected over his long and storied career.

Phil Keaggy and Rex Paul Schnelle shed some light on their Illumination project.

Soon Phil was joined by his friend and music partner Rex Paul Schnelle and together the pair showcased a number of tracks from their highly acclaimed Illumination album with "Don't Hold Back" and "Nothing Can Separate Us" leading the way from the exciting 2019 release. The two also performed a new version of "Love Broke Thru" which could point to a second volume of tunes from them a little further down the road. Another impressive musical companion was on hand as Jeremy Casella offered some meaningful and well-received tracks from his forthcoming Spirit album.

In between two sets of music the standing room only crowd heard from Uncaged founder Kim Westfall about her organization's goal to become one of the world's leading catalysts and resource hubs for the anti-trafficking movement. She described her nascent non-profit's important and ambitious plans to combat human sex trafficking by disrupting criminal activity, rescuing and restoring the lives of victims globally. It wasn't all heavy however as the pre-show party with ample wine and hors d'oeuvres at the cozy confines of Franklin Creative helped set an appropriate tone before the difficult need and subject matter was further delved into.
