Marcus King Gets Rolling with "El Dorado" in Nashville

by Rich and Laura Lynch

Cadillac manufactured and marketed their premium luxury car called the Eldorado from 1952 to 2002 producing a winning brand that lasted for half a century. The Spanish revere El Dorado translated as "The Golden Man" or "The Golden King" - a mythical tribal chief of the Muisca people. In the case of Marcus King - both terms apply as he opened the showroom and previewed the release of his debut solo record titled El Dorado in front of a tribe of his music people on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Urban Cowboy in Nashville, Tennessee.

Marcus King teamed up with producer and Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach on the effort that is due on January 17, 2020 containing a collection of 12 tracks, all composed by King and Auerbach with additional input from songwriters including Pat McLaughlin, Paul Overstreet, and Ronnie Bowman. El Dorado was recorded at Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville, where King now resides. September saw his Grand Ole Opry debut.

While seated at the Urban Cowboy King mentioned that playing just on acoustic put him a bit out of his element. The acclaimed and accomplished 23 year old guitarist from Greenville, South Carolina is best known for his electric guitar work within the confines of his own southern-rock oriented Marcus King Band who are also prominently featured on the record. But, the packed crowd at the unique East Nashville bed and breakfast didn't seem to mind one bit as they listened to his new tracks via a live and playback format in the appropriately decorated room where vintage instruments lined the walls.

Marcus will be taking his El Dorado tour on the road beginning on Halloween, October 31 to play at The Truman in Kansas City, Missouri. As witnessed in Nashville his backers and supporters believe he is the true man, the golden boy with an exciting musical destination that awaits and beckons him forward. Highlights are sure to include a stop at New York's Beacon Theatre. Then, multiple nights in Mexico and Australia will follow early next year. Meaning? More folks will soon discover this innovative songwriter and axe man who many are calling one of the most soulful voices of his generation.
